Los Coyotes Middle School
Extended Learning Opportunities
ELO’s
Los Coyotes Middle School supports student learning outside of the daily classroom assignments. We refer to these
as Extended Learning Opportunities or ELO’s. Each teacher will have expectations for students to complete work
on their own during afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. The type of work assigned will vary by subject matter,
teacher style, student abilities, and student interests. All students should expect to spend between 5-10 hours a week
on ELO’s. The ELO may be in the form of a weekly packet, a daily assignment, a community project, a long term
project, studying for a test, or a reading assignment. The ELO should support classroom activities and provide
students with an opportunity to practice what they have learned, explore new areas of interest, support development
of visual or performing arts, expand their research skills, and extend their hours of learning outside of the classroom
on a daily basis. Each student will have a planner that will allow parents to track their child’s ELO progress.
